December started with a little Hawaiian vacation and a lot of water taxi work but today we had a couple of great dives with Charles providing professional dive buddy services and amateur camera work!  The visibility today was incredible, at both sites, with 100ft viz at Kyan and surface to sandy bottom viz at Castle Reef.  We saw hundreds of beautiful reef fish along with some stunning corals, shrimps and  nudibranches.

We had quite the dive adventure today!  After some mechanical problems in the morning we were able to get out on Futen (風天) for 2 great dives.  We drifted Tokomasari Reef on the east side and saw hundreds of reef fish and a big turtle with 3 remoras!  Then we dove at Uenchi Table Corals and saw 5 different species of clownfish, a huge porcupine fish and a color changing file fish.  Thanks to the great group of divers that came out with us today!

Tokomasari Reef is truly an amazing place!  We were able to get a leisurely dive in on the west side due to the low tidal flows.  With it's amazing hard corals, huge fish schools and dynamic scenery this site will always be one of our favorite.  Uenchi Table Corals was our next stop and was fantastic as well. We saw so many fish and beautiful corals.

Super awesome Dive Date with Captain Kimie! We hit a couple of our favorite sites today and conditions were great!  Captain Kimie found some really cool sea shells at the sandy area of Uenchi Table Corals. As always there were tons of fish and beautiful stony corals.  Sand Flats was next and we saw a lot of amazing things there too.  There were a few rare nudis, tons of anemone fish, a large white tip reef shark and soft corals everywhere!

We timed the tide and got a dive in at Castle Reef (NashiroOki) and were rewarded by seeing two huge sea turtles the moment Charles jumped in to set the anchor line.  The viz had cleared up nicely after all the heavy rain.  The second dive was spent exploring some new deeper areas of the Sand Flats (NishizakiSunachi). We saw a baby remora and a small turtle among all the amazing soft corals and sand patches.

Wow! After two huge typhoons we were able to get back in the water and it was awesome. The water temp dropped from 84F to 77F in just a matter of a couple weeks! Kyan Lighthouse was lots of fun with all the swimthroughs, Angel's Cavern and the Kyan clownfish colony.  Tokomasari was also amazing as usual with several HUGE sea turtles, amazing corals and tons of fish!  We hope typhoon season is over and we can get in the water on a regular basis.

Today's guest came all the way out here from Singapore to dive with us!  How cool is that!  We had a couple of great dives despite the coming typhoon. There were so many beautiful corals and fish to be seen at Uenchi. The hundred plus school of blue-green chromis and abundant clownfish at Nishizaki Sand Flats were amazing. We hope to dive with our new friend again in the future!

We didn't get to dive last weekend but Captain Kimie and Charles got to go on a dive date today! We hadn't been to Onna Village in about a year and it was amazing as usual. Captain Kimie even got to swim with a sea turtle that our good friend Paul spotted above us.  The dives were amazing but we sure did miss the easy boat entry off of the Southern Explorer.

Despite another typhoon headed our way, we were able to get some great dives in today! The nudis were out in force during our 1st dive along with huge Tamans and many colorful reef fish.  The second dive was a clown fish and anemone fest as we just kept finding them the whole dive. A large green moray popped out of hiding as Charles was taking some close ups of a cute clown fish.

Amazing day for diving right before the tropical storm hits us. The north wind had no affect on the superb conditions at Kyan Lighthouse.  Our divers had an amazing time viewing all the reef fish and amazing landscapes.  The stag-horn and table corals at Uenchi stole the show along with the giant Cabbage Coral.

The huge turtles were back at Nashiro but they left as soon as Charles got in the set the anchor.  Octupus, clown fish, grouper, snapper, fusiliers, garden eels, and more! All together is was an amazing day of diving off the coast of Itoman.

Heading out on the Southern Explorer.

The conditions for diving today were great!  The viz was still a little disrupted from the typhoon but once we got to depth things cleared up!  We took our first trip to Suicide Cliffs or Giiza Banta, as the natives call it.  The huge rock structures with various cracks and swimthroughs was amazing!  Channel crevasses was awesome too! We had an amazing day with a great group of divers!

What an amazing day of diving!  We had some old friends come out for 2 dives in the am and some new friends come out for 2 dives in the pm.  Viz wasn't the best due to the recent typhoon up north but the diving was still amazing!  Colorful corals, thousands of fish, huge eels, cute anemone shrimps and a turtle!  We drifted the last dive and got swarmed by vampire trigger fish! So cool!

Today was awesome for diving down south!  The sky was a little overcast at first but it cleared up in the morning and gave us sunny skies for most of the day. The sea was super calm as well. The Kyan Lighthouse, Angel Cavern, was awesome as well as the 6x3ft patch of anemone fish housing!  As usual the fish and corals at Uenchi were amazing. After the morning dives were finished, Charles and Kimie explored the Nishizaki Sand Flats and got some cool macro shots!  Amazing.

Diving Kyan Lighthouse

We got back out on the water now that the false alarm typhoon is over.  Despite the overcast, the super clear viz at Kyan Lighthouse and Nashiro Oki made for some great diving! There are so many juvenile fish in the ocean these days!

July 20, 2018

image212

What typhoon?  We had a typhoon scare that turned out to be a weak tropical storm.  The day before it hit we got out for 4 awesome dives at Uenchi, Nashiro Oki, and Nishizaki Sand Flats! We spotted a pair of huge Green Sea Turtles, with accompanying remoras just hanging out on top of the rock pinnacle at Nashiro Oki!  They were massive. Unfortunately they didn't hang out long after we dove down to set the anchor. It would have been a great picture.

Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris), aka Nemo!

This week has been pretty busy! We have been driving around a few of the local shops lately but Charles managed to get some pictures at Uenchi and Nishizaki Sunachi today!

Tuesday was another great day for diving this week! We stopped at Nishizaki Sand Flats, Okaha Rock and Uenchi for some great diving.

A case of the Monday's?  No, an amazing day on the water! We took divers to Uenchi and a new spot for us called Nishizaki Sand Flat.  So many cool anemones and clown fish.

July 13, 2018

image215

Typhoon Maria passed us up and we got a break in the weather to get some diving in. There was still some sediment stirred up so the viz was a little off but not at all bad.  Summer is definitely here and so are the thousands of newly hatched reef fishes.  We had some first time boat divers today and they did awesome! We can't wait to see them again.

We took the first chance we could to get back on the water after the last typhoon!  This time we had Reef Encounters on board for a 3 dive trip to Uenchi, Tokomasari Reef and Nashiro Oki! The swell was still a little big but overall it was a great day.  The divers even saw a pair of huge Japanese marbled rays in the sand at Nashiro Oki.

Captain Kimie diving at Uenchi, Itoman, Okinawa.

Captain Kimie and Charles got a dive date in just before the next typhoon!  The visibility was amazing at Uenchi and especially Nashiro Oki.  We got up close video of amazing octopus as well as some shots of the garden eels and other inhabitants.

Changing the game. We were able to set anchor in 141 fsw (43msw) and get Dauntless Divers on top of their target depth for an extended range technical diving training session. Once Matt and his student inserted we pulled anchor and headed to the shallow end for the rendezvous and waited. Sure enough they showed up after about 90 minutes of run time on an awesome training dive.

Super awesome drift diving today!  We saw some very rare nudibranchs on our first dive along with so many fish, corals, a turtle and eels. The huge school of barracuda on our second dive was the icing on the cake!  We also saw another turtle, thousands of reef fish, a giant spotted moray and so many stony corals.  Tokomasari Reef has so much to see that we could dive there just about every day!

We had some amazing people on the boat today, thanks to Ken from Best Dive Okinawa!  They came all the way from Hong Kong and A.J. showed us that nothing can keep him from diving!  The conditions today were the best we've seen so far this year.  Yamashiro Coast and Kyan Lighthouse were amazing.

We did a double drift today to hone in our entry points at Tokomasari Reef! There were micro-nudibranchs, sea turtles, napoleon wrasse and so many corals! The current was super strong as you can see in the video! Watch the bubbles and the divers flying over the reef.

Heading back to Itoman from Rukan Atoll

We had a great day of diving out at Rukan Atoll!  Today's group did a drift dive on the east side followed by a drift on the west side. There were so many turtles, including a huge and ancient looking male (species un-known). A huge basketball size frogfish stole the show on the second dive!

May 11, 2018

image224

Now this was magical.  Our first dive was at Nashiro Oki just before low tide.  With the minimal current we were able to visit the garden eels, see Frank the Tank (very large moray), peacock shrimp and amazing nudis.  The second dive at Tokomasari West blew us away.  Amazing corals, huge schools of fish and we found our first zebra shark and it was amazing.  We can't wait to get back to Tokomasari for some more drift action soon. Awesome day today!  The north wind was blowing pretty hard but we managed to get our guests onto some good dive sites at Cape Kyan, Nashiro Oki and Uenchi.  So, so cold on the surface but that water temp is creeping up.

What a way to close out the month!  We had amazing weather, great water conditions and a RAD group of divers! Channel Crevasses was amazing as expected. Tons of beautiful corals and a cute green turtle. The drift at Tokomasari West was spectacular. Tons of fish, a huge grouper, a giant green turtle, barracuda, and more.  The last dive was at a new site just off of Nashiro Beach and it did not disappoint. Giant Trevally, grouper, snakes, a huge puffer nudis and beautiful corals all made it an awesome dive!

It was such a fun time.  Thanks to Dan and crew for diving with us today! This has to be on of our favorite dive logs.

The RAD Scuba Bus rolled out to Sunabe this morning for a couple of great dives before the weather turned.  Visibility was amazing before the 35fsw line and turned bad deeper than that.  Spring is definitely here.  There was so much activity in the water! Octopus, a turtle, tons of fish, some cool nudi's and even a squadron of about 15 porcupine fish.  Thanks to Nicholas for diving with RAD today!

Started out the new month with Dauntless Divers!  We headed south to Cape Kyan lighthouse for a couple of side mount training dives.  That east wind was whipping up around the southern tip of Okinawa but it didn't bother us much!

Amazing day today! It was the first time we saw whales! How awesome is it to add whales to the dive logs?! Just as we turned south out of the marina on the way to Cape Ara, we saw a momma and baby whale!  Matt got some good drone shots before we headed south for some scuba diving. Matt did some more exploring of the new cave and it looks like it is going to take a few more trips to get it mapped out.

Another great morning exploring the deep with Dauntless Divers.  The guys had their scooters out for some side-mount and re-breather training.  Weather up top was great and visibility was amazing. Thanks again to Matt and his crew!

We had the Dauntless Diver crew back on deck for some tech training at Cape Ara. Excellent visibility and sea state.  It almost feels like spring is coming early this year.

February 18, 2018 Morning

image247

Aloha Divers came out early to get 3 dives in before noon!  They explored the swim throughs at Cape Kyan, did a drift dive with some turtles at Tokomasari Reef and hung out with the garden eels at Nashiro Oki!  Such great weather and sea conditions today. Thanks Aloha Divers!

February 13, 2018

image248

Today was even better than yesterday!  Conditions smoothed out as the wind speed dropped and shifted in a southerly direction.  Dauntless Divers were back but this time with some DPVs to cruise around at Yamashiro Coast.

February 12, 2018

image249

Afternoon conditions were great for some closed-circuit diving down south. Dauntless Divers spent about 2 hours exploring all the nooks and crannies at Cape Ara, Okinawa's southern tip.  There are so many tunnels and swim-throughs down there to explore, I am sure Matt and crew would have stayed down there all afternoon if we had the time.

February 3, 2018

image250

So much wind!  Today was the coldest of the year!  We had some Alpha Divers brave the winds and waves as we took them down to Cape Kyan where the conditions were great. Visibility was great while the checked out the abundant caves and swimthroughs.

Surprisingly awesome weather today for out trip to the south! North winds didn't stop us from getting some nice conditions down south at Yamashiro Kaigan and Cape Kyan!  Thanks to Aloha Divers for using our charter service!  We hope to see you guys again soon.

We started 2018 with a bang!  This was our first double header of the year.  We took a couple of divers out for some great recreational diving at Tokomasari and Nashiro Oki in the morning.  In the afternoon we gave some tech divers a ride out to Cape Kyan, where they conducted a rebreather class.

December 31, 2017

What a way to close out 2017!  Fink brought his Underwater Club out for two amazing dives in the south.  The first was Channel Crevasses where they were met by 4 sea turtles. Then it was on to the swim throughs at Cap Kyan! It's always a blast with Fink's Underwater Club.

What an amazing day with a great group of divers.  On the first dive saw so many turtles and a huge pregnant white tip reef shark! For the second dive we visited our garden eel friends and all the other sea life that hang out nearby. Saturday was a busy day for RAD!  In the morning we had Scuba Scott and his group on board for 2 dives. One at Tokomasari and one at Cape Kyan. It was great to have Scuba Scott on board again.

After a break for lunch  Dauntless Divers showed up. Matt brought his whole scooter gang out to explore the chain of swim throughs at Cape Kyan.  Check out the video at the Dauntless Divers Facebook page. It was a really exciting day on the water for everyone!

Another great day on Okinawa's southern seas! We cruised out to Channel Crevasses (大度浜海岸) for the first dive, then finished the day off at Cape Kyan!  Thanks to Ken from 青潜Best Dive Okinawa for coming out with us today!

December 12, 2017

image263

Cape Kyan is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots for technical and recreational diving.  Matt and Noodle came out with their DPV's (diver propulsion vehicle) and did some exploring. They found an awesome series of swim-throughs which Matt filmed on GoPro. The video should be up on the Dauntless Divers facebook as well as out own RAD facebook page. Check it out!

December 9, 2017

It was a pleasure to have Darlene and her two tech students out with us today.  The north winds made for some rough seas getting to and from the site but once we were in the pocket at Cape Kyan, all was well.

We got stuck in a channel on the first dive but had a few turtles, a school of dog tooth tuna, a school of black barracuda and a crazy big sea snake keep us company.
